Looking back on my summer in Congress

This past summer I had the privilege of working for Congressman Steve Stivers (OH-15) on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. Below is a photo essay of some of the highlights of my time in the heart of our nation.

My family came out and saw me during my time in the city. Below we are by the Ronald Reagan California State Statue. Fun fact: Each state gets 2 statues to place within the Capitol building and California's Reagan statue has pieces of the Berlin Wall built into it!

On the Fourth of July I attended President Trump's "Solute To America" military parade with my girlfriend, Elle Stevens, who was also working for the House. It was a rainy day filled with fun, fireworks, dehydration, and Instagram pictures.
This photo was taken after the July 4th fireworks show. I watched from the steps of the Capitol. This picture just looks haunting to me.

I had the amazing privilege of working for and with Representative Steve Stivers and the Republican Party this summer.

Definitely could've gotten into trouble for sitting at the boss' desk... oh well.

The 50th anniversary of the Apollo space launch that sent the first man to the moon was celebrated while I was in the city. The Washington Monument projected the launch onto it.

The Capitol is a beautiful and breathtaking building. Photo taken by yours truly.

My grandparents took a day to see me and got a nice in depth tour of the Capitol!

Huck! Our office pup was easily the best part of the whole summer!

My University showcased my internship within their office for career development.

The picture says it all, but this was in Martin's Tavern in D.C.!

My favorite picture during my summer in D.C. I took some time to relax on the Speaker's Balcony in Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi's office.

A few connections I made through my school gave me access to a private club to meet and schmooze with the Washington elite. The University Club was beyond amazing and is right by the White House! Fun fact: the 27th President of the United States, William Howard Taft, was the founder and first "U-Club" President!

Sadly, this was taken on my last day in D.C. Metro Center was the death of me, but allowed me to figure out the game that is riding the Metro.

It was an absolute honor and privilege to meet and talk with the House of Representatives Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23). Congressman McCarthy was wonderful and is a great Republican leader.

Washington D.C. is absolutely beautiful.

President Trump's adviser Kellyanne Conway was meant to testify to a House panel, but failed to show up. As a result, it was a quick hearing that resulted in me getting some quality air time
Here I worked and studied in the Library of Congress' historic Main Reading Room.

I attended the Faith & Freedom Coalition, where I had the opportunity to see President Donald J. Trump speak for the small group in attendance!

During this experience, I walked up the 300 steps up the Capitol Building to reach the top of the big dome. Here, you can see all of the quadrants of the city! Fun Fact: the painting at the top of the rotunda, "The Apotheosis of Washington" by Constantino Brumidi is large enough to fill the entire ground of the Rotunda.

During this part of my trip I was invited to the White House to meet a connection within the administration. Being able to see this magnificent building up close and personal was beyond my wildest dreams. When going to the tourist-ridden front of the White House, many groups were protesting for/against the President. This picture in particular is of a Ghanaian man supporting the President's efforts to "build the wall" in which he stood perfectly still and silent and just stared ahead.

Ended up at the Trump Hotel for a reception one evening during the summer for drinks and networking.

During my tour of the National Archives, I found the blueprints of the original Slinky toy, which was invented and owned by my family.

I hope you enjoyed a fun, yet brief, look into my time working for the federal government. God Bless America!

Conservative Economics

Economics is a very debatable topic. Many experts argue and deliberate on numerous topics related to the economy. This makes sense, since the economy is one of, if not the most important aspect to a country's success. A great economy makes a great country. Now in today's society, citizens of the United States tend to fall into one of two categories when expressing their beliefs on economic principles: those who are Capitalist, and those who are Socialist. Now this isn't entirely black and white, right and left, and Republican and Democrat. People do fall in the middle. Debate is necessary for progress, and bipartisanship is the only way to truly make change. Well, this may be the case for some situations, but Republicans really do have the advantage when arguing economics. More capitalistic economies are objectively better than more socialist economies. Now why is that? This blog post delves into my own economic theories and what I personally believe is right. Because this ...

The Dark History of the Democratic Party

We have never been more divided as a country. We are on the brink of Civil War and there seems to be no end in sight. You have on one end, racist, intolerant, evil people protesting for hate. On the other end, you have vigilantes who resort to violence to create peace - hurting the structure of our society and putting lives in danger. Neither side is right, and both must be condemned thoroughly. Now, we have a President who refuses to condemn the alt-right. A President who is adding fuel to this side of the fire. Then America has a large group, the media and the Democratic Party's establishment, not condemning the alt-left, but instead promoting and glorifying it. This blog post, will hopefully help show the major hole in the Democratic Party's public image, and in the process, show that "Love Trumps Hate" is not always as it seems.  This is purely my own theory, based on the work done by numerous conservative writers, with one in particular. So as the title s...

The Second Amendment Shall Not Be Infringed Upon

The Bill of Rights was established by our Founding Fathers. I personally consider myself a Constitutional Conservative and believe that what the Constitution says (including the Bill of Rights) is the law of the land and is not a "living, breathing document" like others believe. With this, I believe fully in the Second Amendment. I believe that citizens have the right to bear arms and that right shall not be taken away. When it comes to the topic of gun control, it seems to me that it is only ever widely discussed during severe and dramatic instances. For example, after every mass shooting in the United States under the Obama administration, Democrats called for harsh and ridiculous gun control measures. This would be debated and argues and fought over for a few weeks after the horrific tragedy and then it would eventually fizzle out and America would direct it's focus on a different subject instead. This may seem shocking to think about, a serious topic such as gun c...
